Puglia or Apulia, either way it's great

We visited Puglia twice so far, once for a week in March of 2004 and again for several days in April of 2006.

In March of 2004 we stayed at the Masseria Salamina near Fasano. The food was great but our hosts were scarcely helpful about the region (an unusual thing to say about Italians in the tourist industry) and the facilities not terribly well soundproofed.

Still Puglia is truly wonderful: Locorotondo, Ostuni, Alberobello. (OK we missed Lecce sad to say.) You can read all about our experiences there that week in 2004, including our meeting the Tampone family and visiting the old airfield near Cerignola where Susan's father had been stationed during World War Two (he was a navogator on B-24s). Indeed, meeting the Tampones is itself a good story. More. . .

On our way from Sicily to the lakes region of northern Italy in late April of 2006, Susan and I stopped in Puglia to spend several days with the Tampone family in Cerignola. More . . .
