Roma, Rome and Lazio

Roma, or Rome as we tourists are fond of calling it (for some reason), is often a point of convergence of destinations, flying into or taking the train out of, and all too often gets short shrift as a destination in and unto itself. It is certainly one of our favorite cities and we feel truly fortunate to have spent any time there at all.

We were first there in June of 2001. Four of us stayed at Hotel La Residenza.

We returned the following year for Easter (it seemed like the thing to do at the time), and stayed at the Hotel Teatro Pompeo (as you might suspect it's located above the ruins of Pompey's theater, not far from where Caesar was assasinated). Although the trip was short it was, as they say, extremely sweet and we discovered much about the city that you might find of some value. More . . .

In March of 2004 Susan and I returned to Rome for four nights after our week in Puglia. We checked into the Hotel Due Torri, located very close to the Tiber and just a stone's throw from the Pantheon.

Anyway, we took the opportunity to revisit some favorite spots, in particular the restaurant Ditirambo. You can read our trip notes with recommendations for places to go and of course places to eat by clicking here!

We have also had to stay in Rome just for an overnight and can recommend the Hotel Alpi, a five minute walk from Termini train station. Nothing fancy but clean and close to several good restaurants.
