Scopello and Western Sicily

In April of 2005 we spent a fantastic week in Western Sicily. After spending two months studying Italian in Siena during the winter, we packed up our car and drove south looking for sun.

Earlier in the year we had arranged to stay with a family in Scopello, just west of Palermo, and couldn't have made a better choice. Tiny Scopello is located right on the edge of Il Zingaro regional nature preserve that sticks out into the Mediterranean like a needle. And our hosts, Gianni and Lucia were so gracious and very generous -- delicious breakfasts in their home every morning, and our last night before leaving the island Lucia fixed scrumptious fresh doughnut-like desserts outside in their backyard!

Susan and I saw wonderful things, ate great food and are eager to go back.
