Solferino, Lake Garda and the Veneto

In April of 2006, after completing a two-month language course in Siena, followed by a drive south to Sicily for a week, and then spending several days in Puglia with our friends the Tampones, we continued north. The next leg of the trip saw us spending a week in an agriturismo just outside the small vilalge of Solferino, near Lake Garda. We stayed at Le Sorgive.

If we had it to do over again we would stay in Desenzano, right on the edge of Lake Garda. Yes it is touristy but it's got a fabulous location and full of energy. It's also an excellent place to use as a base of operations for exploring the nearby wine region of Valpolicella or a quick train ride to Verona or Venice. More . . .

After leaving Solferino we traveled west to Lake Orta , just an hours' drive from Milan's Malpensa airport, and our final stop of this extraordinary journey. More . . .

Two months living in Siena, then driving all the way to Sicily and then back up the entire length of the peninsula!
